Astro / safari rpo codes
Full list of rpo codes at the bottom of this page.
THE RPO CODE TAG CAN BE FOUND IN THE GLOVE BOX OR PASSENGER DOOR.
With this info, you can decode your GM vehicle, and be able to determine what gear ratio and all the options your van came with from the factory.
If you’re looking for a used Astro/Safari, I’d like help, look for a 96 or newer but only buy a van with RPO codes G80(posi) and GT4(3.73:1) or GT5(4.10:1) gear ratio codes(the GT5 is hard to find). Having these options makes all the difference. The Astro’s transfer case is nonlocking, and the posi makes up for it and you need the rite gear ratio to run bigger tires, so your van has the power to move or pull a trailer and so your gas mileage doesn’t go down. You can find the RPO codes on a white tag on the inside of the passenger door, if it’s not there it’s probably a repaired wreck. You can decode any GM vehicle here and see what it’s options are or if it was a (rode hard) fleet or rental vehicle. There is lots of nice low mileage vans out there. Adding a posi cost $500+, before I go look at a van, I have the seller send me a photo of the RPO tag or look for the RPO codes I want, so I’m not falling in love with a van that doesn’t have the equipment I need.
